What is Meditrek, and when will you need it?

Meditrek is the system Walden nursing students use to apply for practicum sites and preceptors, track approval status, access the affiliation agreement database, and log supervised clinical hours. It is separate from myWalden, which is the administrative portal, and separate from Blackboard, which is the classroom. Hours logged in Meditrek do not appear in your coursework gradebook.

Three systems, three jobs

People arrive expecting one login. myWalden handles registration, financial aid, records, advising and residency sign-up. Blackboard is the classroom: announcements, syllabus, discussions, assignments, gradebook, live meetings. Meditrek is nursing-specific and handles everything practicum.

None replaces another, and the third is invisible until the term you need it, which is exactly the problem.

The clock that starts early

Walden's guidance is to submit the site and preceptor request at least two months before the practicum application deadline or the site's own deadline, whichever falls first. Behind that sit approvals and affiliation agreements, which queue.

So a practicum term has you working two clocks that do not talk to each other: weekly deadlines in Blackboard, and an approval queue in Meditrek you should have started months earlier. Coursework discipline will not save you from missing the second one.

The affiliation agreement nobody mentions

A willing preceptor is not sufficient on its own. The site itself needs an agreement in place with Walden, and putting a new one there takes time and is not guaranteed to succeed.

Meditrek holds a database of existing agreements, which is genuinely useful: a site already on it is dramatically less work than one that is not. It is worth asking about that list before you settle on a site.

What to do in month one

Get into Meditrek early, look at which nearby sites already hold agreements, and approach those first. Then document every approach as you make it, because if the search eventually fails you will need five refusals in a specific documented form to trigger the Practicum Pledge.

Common questions

What is Meditrek at Walden?

Meditrek is the system Walden nursing students use to apply for practicum sites and preceptors, track approvals, access the affiliation agreement database, and log supervised clinical hours.

Is Meditrek the same as myWalden?

No. myWalden is the administrative portal for registration, financial aid and records. Blackboard is the classroom. Meditrek is the separate nursing system for practicum applications and clinical hours.

When should I submit a preceptor request in Meditrek?

Walden's guidance is to submit at least two months before the practicum application deadline or the site's own deadline, whichever comes first, because approvals and affiliation agreements queue behind it.
